PM, other leaders greet nation on Dussehra

 Dussehra, also known as Vijaya Dashami, symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

In Hindu mythology, for the followers of Shaktism, it represents the victory of goddess Durga over Mahishasura after a nine-day battle between different manifestations of the goddess and different rakshasas (demons). For others, the festival symbolizes the victory of Lord Rama of Ayodhya over Lanka king Ravana.

On the occasion of Dussehra, which is being celebrated today (October 15), Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to microblogging site Twitter to greet the nation. "Greetings to everyone on the special occasion of Vijaya Dashami," he tweeted. He also dedicating seven new defence companies. Making an announcement regarding this a day earlier, the Prime Minister had tweeted: “On the special occasion of Vijaya Dashami tomorrow, 15th October, seven new defence companies would be dedicated to the nation. This is part of our efforts to modernize the defence sector and create an Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.

Many other political leaders used their Twitter handles to greet the nation on the occasion of Dussehra. Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared a photo along with his greetings. “Hearty congratulations to all the countrymen on Vijayadashami”. This festival of eternal victory of religion, justice, truth and virtue over unrighteousness, injustice, untruth and tyranny inspires everyone to renounce the evils inside them and walk on the path of humanity. May Lord Shri Ram bless everyone. Jai Shree Ram!,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote: “Warm wishes to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami”. He also mentioned that the former President and the ‘Missile Man’ in his next tweet.  “Remembering the former President of India, Dr, APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. He had a fiery dream of building a self-reliant and strong nation. His dedication his entire life to serve his motherland. His contributions will never be forgotten,” Singh said.
