SXCMT organises poetry competition, Anisha Bharti and Aspriha Dubey win first prize

PATNA: Anisha Bharti and Aspriha Dubey won the first prize in self-composed and recitation categories, respectively, at a poetry competition held in St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

The competition, organized by the Xavier Poetry Club, was themed ‘Passion and Compassion’. Thirteen students, who were selected after a screening, participated in the event, named Kavya Utsav.

While Anisha’s poem, ‘Falsafa Zindagi Ka’, was about the philosophical belief related to people’s responsibility for creating purpose or meaning in their lives, Aspriha’s recitation of Kavita Tiwari’s ‘Balidan Rahega Sada Amar Mardani Laxmi Bai Ka’ described the life and valour of the queen of Jhansi in an emotionally charged manner.

In the self-composed category, Kriti won the second prize for her poem ‘Mardangi’. Asfiya Rehman’s ‘Bharatiya Sainikon ko Salam’, was given the third prize in this category.

In the recitation section, Upasana won the second prize. She recited Rakesh Tiwary’s ‘Jinde Sapne Tut Te Huay. Prabhakar, who recited ‘Krishna Ki Chetavani’ by Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, bagged the third prize in this category.

Chief guest and well-known poet, Dr Shakil Moni, gave away the prizes to the winners.



In his address, which was dotted with poems and couplets related to the theme, complimented the budding poets. “Do not allow negativity to influence your passion and creativity,” he said.

Mr Ajay Kumar Pandey, principal, College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, was the special guest.

The competition was judged by Fr Raj Kumar SJ, Dr Mala Kumari Upadhyay and Mr Rakesh Kumar Pathak.

Acting Rector, Fr Martin Poras SJ, principal Fr T Nishaant SJ, Xavier Poetry Club mentor Mr Tapeshwar Prasad and members of the faculty were present on the occasion.

The event was anchored by Aditya and Trisha while Astha Kumari proposed the vote of thanks.
