The first case of Zika virus in Uttar Pradesh has been detected in Kanpur. According to officials, the patient is an Air Force personnel living in the Pokharpur area of Kanpur.
The health department sent the
patient's samples to Pune for testing. After his result came out to be
positive, the area was sanitised by the municipal corporation.

Kanpur's Chief Medical Officer
(CMO) Nepal Singh said at least 200 people who were in close contact with the
patient have been isolated and his complete history is being checked.

Uttar Pradesh, cases of Zika virus were detected in Kerala and Maharashtra.

What is
Zika virus?
According to the World Health
Organisation (WHO), Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. It was first
identified in humans in Uganda and Tanzania in 1952.
Symptoms generally include mild
fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, or headaches. Most
symptoms can last for two-seven days. The virus can also be transmitted through
sexual intercourse.
