The term of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das extended by three years

The centre decided to extend the tenure duration of Shaktikanta Das by three years or any further notice. Shaktikanta Das was appointed as Governor in December 2018.



The tenure of the RBI Governor is generally of 5 years and in the third year the government can take a decision on extending or terminating the tenure. On friday, 29th October, The Appointments Committee of Cabinet decided to extend the tenure by three years.

The official statement said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Shaktikanta Das as Reserve Bank of India Governor for a period of three years beyond 10.12.2021 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Shaktikanta Das is an IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He was earlier an Union Economic Affairs Secretary and also member of Fifteenth Finance Commission. And currently he is serving as 25th Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
