Today, 22nd January, ANI tweeted the new SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) issued by the Assam government on 21st January for the Republic day celebration in the State. This new SOP came in the form of a Press Release on the new directive on COVID-19 issued for the celebration of Republic Day.
SOP is a Standard Operating Procedure which means a set of written instructions that narrate the procedure of any routine activity step by step. These new instructions for the Republic day celebration in Assam came following the increasing cases of COVID-19. Several restrictions are made in the new SOP to avoid the strike in a pandemic in the state.
The audience strength is reduced and made to 1,000 people at the state level and only 500 at the district level. Different award ceremonies are canceled from the event, now the event will be limited to flag hoisting along with the chief guest speech and ceremonial parade. School children are restricted from the ceremonial parade and March past. Pre and post-Republic day celebrations will also be avoided this year.

Changes are also made in the National Republic day celebration like the changes in time and cut down in the audience strength. The starting time of the parade this year is kept at 10:30 A.M. because of the chances of fog in the capital on 26th January, also the audience is cut short to only 24,000 this year, out of which 19,000 will be invited guests and rest will be the common public who have purchased the tickets.
