Covid testing ramps up in India, long queues for booster doses, 400% increase in numbers in Telangana

There have been a total of 4,46,77,302 cases in the country, with 5.3 lakh fatalities due to the virus. In the last 24 hours, 196 new cases have been reported, with 3,428 active cases currently in the country and a positivity rate of 0.56%. In the past day, 35,173 tests were conducted, bringing the total number of tests conducted in India to 90.99 crore.

In response to the detection of the BF 7 variant of Covid-19 in India, there has been an increase in demand for booster doses of the vaccine, leading to long queues at vaccination canters. In Telangana, there has been a 400% increase in the number of people seeking booster doses, while in Odisha there has been an 8-fold increase. On December 24th, 3,380 people received booster doses in Telangana, compared to only 646 on December 21st. Similarly, in Odisha, there has been a steady increase in the number of people receiving booster doses, with 1,631 on December 22nd, 2,267 on December 23rd, and 3,380 on December 24th. Even on Christmas, 1,500 people received booster doses.

Globally, there have been 2.89 lakh new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with 616 fatalities. Japan has reported 1.49 lakh cases and 306 deaths, South Korea has reported 58,448 cases and 46 deaths, and the United States has reported 4,696 cases.
